Buddy’s History

Buddy Michaels has been in radio broadcasting for nearly 40 years. Throughout his career he has worked Rock-n-roll, Country, Gospel and most of all Bluegrass. He has been the host of a popular Bluegrass radio show for more than 30 of those years. During this time
he has had the pleasure of working with, and becoming friends with such artists as Bill Monroe, Dr. Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, Larry Sparks, Sonny and Bobby Osborne, Del McCoury, and The Seldome Scene including the late John Duffey for whom one of Buddy’s dogs is named. He has also had the privilege of working with pioneer sidemen like Chubby Wise, Kenny Baker, Uncle Josh Graves, Benny Martin, Curley Seckler, and many others. Not only the pioneers, Buddy has had the opportunity of working with greats such as Ricky Skaggs, Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, The Johnson Mountain Boys, Hot Rize, Lonesome River Band, Alison Krauss, Third Tyme Out, Blue Highway, James King, and too many others to mention including new and up coming artists.

Not only hosting his radio show, but Buddy can also be heard and seen emceeing at great North Carolina Bluegrass Festivals like Little John’s Mountain Music Festival in Snow Camp, Preddy Fest in Franklinton, Willow Oak Bluegrass Park in Roxboro, Lorraine Jordan and Carolina Road’s Homecoming in Burlington, The Got To Be NC Festival band contest in
Raleigh, and Denton Farm Park in Denton. In the past he was privileged to work such festivals as the Bass Mountain Bluegrass Festival for 30 years, Merle Fest the first 10 years, the Original Country Gentleman Festival in Stuart, VA, Doyle Lawson’s Festival in Denton, and Carlton Haney’s Camp Springs Festival.

Buddy is well respected by many in the Bluegrass industry
including musicians, promoters, record labels, and his peers. He is
honored to be a long-time song reporter for Bluegrass Unlimited
Magazine and more recently for Bluegrass Music Profiles, The Alternate
Root Top 66 chart, and the brand new Bluegrasstoday.com(formally
Bluegrass Blog).

Buddy’s main goal with this website is to preserve traditional
music and to promote the new, great performers of today and tomorrow.

He hopes you enjoy his website and will take a minute to check
out the calendar of upcoming events and enjoy listening to his show.
Thank you all for your support and God Bless….

This webesite is dedicated in loving memory of his dad, Val, who
introduced Buddy to OldTime Music at an early age.
